| Mine shift depending on mood and tastes at the time. Right now I’ve been into “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All”. In particular the portion, “every time I see you all the rays of the sun are steaming through the waves in your hair and every star in the sky is taking aim at your eyes like a spotlight.” I remember hearing that song for the first time and being absolutely blown away by those lyrics. How on earth was Jim able to write them? That song is so beautiful but I feel kind the true meaning initially was lost on me. Kind of like most people seem to take Paradise By The Dashboard light as this sex romp, completely omitting he final portion where that one night basically makes their lives miserable. The classic Steinman emotional twist. In similar fashion, “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All” is essentially about someone sleeping with a person and falling head over heels in love with them. Making love to them with every fiber of their being. It meant the world to them it to the person it was just strictly sex, hence the title of the song. That little emotional twist of the chorus was lost on me upon first listening 20 years ago.
