Here's the press release about it. Not sure what happened to this project.

Restless Records / DAS Label Press Release

23 YEARS AND 37 MILLION RECORDS LATER ...

"BAT OUT OF HELL" GOES COUNTRY

Meat Loaf's "Bat Out Of Hell" was released in 1977 and has sold over 37 million copies since. A new spin on the extraordinarily successful rock-opera classic will feature various country artists covering the tunes on "Bat Out Of Nashville."

On "Bat Out Of Nashville," writer/producer Jim Steinman will corral a herd of country artists to cover every song from Meat Loaf's rock opera classic, including the title track, "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" and "Heaven Can Wait." Additionally, the mega-hit "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" and others from the 16 million selling sequel will appear on the countrified compilation.

Steinman figures there is no better genre of music to cover these titles. As a passionate country music fan since his youth, Steinman believes that country tunes lie beneath the surface of the original big, Gothic, operatic versions. "My songs have always had a real country feel," says Steinman. "Like country, they love telling stories. Like country, they love words and word play."

Realizing the relationship between his songs and country, an eager Steinman decided to take it a step further. "I always thought it would be a great idea to strip these songs down to their essence and do brilliantly fresh country versions," says Steinman. Just looking at the titles alone one might believe that the original was a country record. "Country titles tell you a lot and are often based on well known phrases with a twist. 'You Took The

Words Right Out Of My Mouth (It Must Have Been While You Were Kissing Me)' - if that isn't a purebred country title, I don't know what is. 'Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad' gives new, heartbreaking, love lost, soul shaking meaning to an old cliché," says Steinman about his songs.

The original "Bat Out Of Hell" songs featured Meat Loaf's over the top style, which Steinman believes plays perfectly into the new country versions. "The best country for me was always 'over the top' in terms of raw, unleashed, naked emotion," Steinman explains. "And my feeling has always been, with music and life, if you don't go 'over the top,' then how are you going to see what's on the other side?" And soon we will see what is on the other side of "Bat Out Of Hell" with the forthcoming birth of "Bat Out Of Nashville."

The project will be a joint venture between Restless Records and The DAS Label's David Sonenberg. He is widely known for his management of Jim Steinman, Meat Loaf, The Fugees, Wyclef Jean and Joan Osbourne as well as for the Academy Award winning Muhammed Ali documentary, "When We Were Kings."

Additional Comments To The Press From Jim Steinman:

"'Bat Out Of Hell' -- any trucker could have said that...I've always thought it would be a great idea artistically and commercially to strip these songs down to their essences and do brilliantly fresh country versions. They are 'character' songs, 'story' songs."

"I always dreamed of being a country singer but, this big fella named Meat Loaf auditioned for me for a part in a musical I wrote at the New York Shakespeare Festival and I thought he'd be perfect to sing stuff from my more rock and roll side. But, like me, he had a lot of country in him."
