Thanks. Some of that is taken from the mysterious November 2001 draft (reproduced in its entirety here: http://www.freewebs.com/lordsteinman/dotv_november01.htm & http://www.freewebs.com/lordsteinman/dotv_november012.htm) It's very interesting. According to this site, "Dance Of The Vampires" received a reading in April 2001 at the Chelsea Dance Studios, NY (people confuse this reading as the one with the "November script". In actual fact, no one (except the participants) knows what was read at the Chelsea.) After that reading, Steve Barton did the demos in May. Then 21 July 2001 he was dead. Ironically 20 July 2001 was the announcement of Michael Crawford as Count von Krolock. Steve Barton is mostly remembered as the second lead BEHIND Crawford in "The Phantom Of The Opera", later replacing him in the Broadway run. Barton had suffered Bi-Polar Disorder for many, many years, and was committed to a number of projects before his death. I remember in August 2001 (that time) finding out Michael Crawford was in the part and that it would open Broadway April 2002. Then there was 11 September which delayed everything to November. The November script, therefore, must have been what was intended for the April run. The reason I heard Caird left was because he was scared post-9/11 and didn't want to fly to New York. So he had something to do with that draft (the April readings credit John Caird as a book-writer. Hmmm...) After Caird left, Ives was still involved (he was credited for the April readings as well. WHAT ON EARTH WAS DONE AT THE APRIL READINGS. That's the thing. I have no idea. It was definitely not this script, the one I linked to.) And the rest is, well, history. The rest you produce I think comes from the DOTV vocal score which corresponds with those "UK demos" (I still think they did the whole lot and not just the three songs. But I can't prove it.) ALSO, apparently there are demos with Michael Crawford which have never been released. There's a lot more to this iceberg than meets the eye. It's a pity Jim's not around otherwise I'm sure he'd explain it all if he could | |
