The only way it's tied to "Batman" is because it has the variation of the second verse in "Gotham City". The song "Gotham City" is operatic and powerful, evocative of the superhuman world of comics. "Cry To Heaven" is more blues-style or 50s soft rock (if you can call it that). I don't see that style, or those variations of the lyrics, working anywhere at all in "Batman". Journalists made this mistake because it was much easier to say they were both written for "Batman".
