The best explanation I can give is that Don Black collaborated with Andrew Lloyd Webber for many years. He also did touch-up work on the touring version of "Whistle Down The Wind" and various other revisions. He's one of the most reliable lyricists in the biz (or was) so I could see why Jim would work with him. It also wasn't a one-off because Black did additional lyrics for "Braver Than We Are", or at least the Broadway version. > > Maybe Jim submitted it without Black's knowledge? I don't care for either of them, nor "Angels Arise". I think it's a crying shame that "Gotham City" hasn't gotten out. I really think someone like Sarah Brightman and a full-blooded choir could do a magnificent recording. AND FEATURING JIM STEINMAN ON GRAND PIANO. > > In any case 'Vespers/Gotham City' is the best use of the > gorgeous melody. I, whole-heartedly, agree. It's a pity "The Dream Engine" never did it live either. I would have liked to hear Rob tackle "The Graveyard Shift" especially since HE was (supposedly) going to be BATMAN in the musical. | |
