Sure it does. But I'm quite sure (Google isn't being helpful in finding the numbers to back this up) that if you do the math, you'll find that the gun crime rates are higher in the US.
But anyway, I am so not sticking my head into this issue. From what I've seen while looking for the numbers suggests that mentioning gun control has a Pavlovian effect.
