If I hear The Beatles go by, played by someone else, I don't turn them off, or object, but I don't go out of my way, either.
For me, of that period, The Kinks, The Doors, Cream, Janis Joplin, and a few others hold up very well -- are, in a sense, still contemporary.
(I am fond of Ringo on You Know It Don't Come Easy and Octopuses Garden, though.)
