Eclipse - Male or Female Vocal ??

Even though Jim has a done a great remix, I still feel a bit under whelmed by the Westlife version, and think it’s because of the male vocal?

To me, the sentiments of the lyrics are definitely from a woman’s point of view:

‘...tired of listening to the sound of my tears’

‘...the best of all the years have gone by’

‘...now I’m only falling apart’

I don’t think many men would say or think these words??

In regards to female vocals, my favourite to date is Mandy Gonzales live at Joe’s Pub in 2005. I think she manages to wring out every last bit of emotion, with some great phrasing variations, and a great understanding of the lyric (even more so than Bonnie’s original), along with a fantastic ending.

To me, the production on Bonnie’s original is more or less perfect, and I’m not overly keen on a big bombastic intro, as the lyric demands a slow & quiet start.

Would love Jim to re-do Eclipse with Mandy Gonzales, adding in the 'weird choir’ BV’s (from the Westlife mix), and Bova re-working the instrumental break with 'mad violins'.

Also, how about Mandy whispering this spoken word intro:

‘Once upon a time...there was light in my life...

But now (sigh)...now there's only love in the dark...

And there’s just nothing I can do...and there’s just nothing I can say...

...only love in the dark...a total eclipse of the heart...’
