If I had to explain every saying then it would lose its humour ;o) Googling the terms might help with any confusion.
I used the terms 'flogging the dolphin' and 'slapping the mackerel' because a dolphin and a mackerel are sea creatures, so there's a certain similarity to them. I could've said, 'He could spank the monkey whilst she's beating the beaver'
