I think he's scouting out whether anyone owns something he doesn't have yet, so he can seek out a copy. And bragging, too. But there's nothing really wrong with that.
When collectors finally think they already own everything they possibly can, they do desperate things like this, in the hope there's something more to pick up, so their hobby hasn't come to a dead end.
