My Dad was in the Navy, on ship. They had a limited number of movies on board with them. One of them was Small Circle of Friends. My Dad just loved this movie. He loved the story, the characters, the casting, everything. He used to tell me about it years ago, how it was still one of his favorite movies, but he could never seem to find it on video.

He recorded it off TV one day and that's when I told him I'd like to see it, as I knew Steinman had written the score.

Talk about a Father/Son bonding moment.

It's a great movie, though. Hearing Steinman's familiar melodies invokes more of a "ah-ha, cool" feeling than any distraction. Like when you're watching Tanz and you hear something you've heard before.

It's available on DVD here in the US. I highly recommend it!

PS: On a side note, I haphazardly found this on DVD and Fearless Vampire Killers on DVD on the same day in Tower Records. Bought 'em both. Had myself a little Steinman date that night (and no, this doesn't reference the masturbation topic from below)...
