You might be right about the production. I do quite like the sound of CHSIB. But overall TMiL is better, to me, than CHSIB. HOWEVER, they both suffer the same affliction of being light on, well, songs.

Bat 1 and 2, WTTN, Bad Attitude. These are albums with SONGS! TMiL and CHSIB have a couple, with the others being completely expendible. The "few songs" that it has might be different for each person, but the dynamic of the album as a whole is such that it comes off as disjointed and slow, with lots of dead weight, unlike, say, Bad For Good where each track compliments what has just been and what is about to come. You've got fully blown orchestral pieces, you've got 50s / 60s schtick, rock and roll, melodious Rory Dodd bits. CHSIB and TMiL are all smoke and mirrors. 5 or 6 really strong songs between then, padded out to the length of about 3 normal albums.

CHSIB gets way pretentious and bloated in the middle, what with every song needing a "gimmick": stupid poem intro, song, pan pipe solo, preacher monologue bit, bit of a song, dumb bit in the middle of testify, bit more song, stupid texas monologue, bit more song etc.

First time I heard CHSIB I thought "jeese, meat Loaf's become a one trick pony", trying to recreate a sense of 'narrative' or something just as he did (very well) with WTTN. And that's way rich for Meat to do, what with him coimplaining that BfG was just too much of Bat out of Hell all over again (even tho we all know that had nothing to do with his not recoring BfG :o) ).

So overall I'd say CHSIB is NOT better than TMiL, but I can easily see how someone could be of that opinion, given as hey're both, to me, in the same boat anyways. I think if you were to cut them down to one disc of stuff between them it'd be amongst the strongest thing he'd done in ages.
