This is a really good example of one of those derivatives. In order to know what to listen for, you have to know what you are listening to. Jim said in his interviews that The Dream Engine was very esoteric. The good news is that he has come to write more acceptable works for an audience, but the bad news is, he's still esoteric.....he knows it. (This is where I don't get all gushy and goo in the head, but I plod along with my intellectual circuits actively jumping the synapses.) In a nutshell? In the allegory of the skull of the country, is commenting and warning: He observed people giving up their liberties for pie in the sky promises brought by theiving, deceiving, robber barons who would destroy this country. And he asks, how do you bury the most integral and essential part of you? | |
