| When I first saw the tracklisting of TMiL, I was kinda excited to hear all the Steinman numbers. Because hell, I like Meat, I like Meat doing Steinman numbers with Steinman, and I like Meat doing Steinman number without steinman. So i was excited to hear him do tunes he otherwise (there's a good chance) would never have done: Future, BfG, It's All Coming Back To Me Now. But then I heard them, and yikes! They all suck! Seize and Cry suck the worst, cause meat's voice is completely out to lunch on those. BfG is boring shite, and Future + All Coming Back are completely flawed. HOWEVER, I'm gonna go right ahead and blame Desmond. Meat's voice is still capable of a LOT better than his effort on Cry To Heaven, TMiL, Bad For Good. Meat needs his head checked for letting all of this happen the way it has. SO... Assuming that Jim + Rinkoff are not involved with anything Meat does from here on in, I would STILL be happy for Meat to do a bunch of previously released Steinsongs he has yet to record (there aren't many anymore, I know). I love his Original Sin and Left In The Dark (I think I'm alone on that second one) and his two from Bad Attitude are great. Meat can really build up a song from not much, and so when Steinman is not producing they get a different feel. His Nowhere Fast is stripped back (less pronounced chord structure, no "Storm" recycling), his Left In The dark is more sparse. If TMiL had followed this trend instead of Desmond trying too hard it would probably have been much much better. SO... The aberation in quality that TMiL is aside, I'd quite like to hear Meat record Steinman tidbits from the past with a good producer, because his track record is good. Why doesn't he work with Jeff Bova? That'd be a good start. Todd? (If Todd could even be bothered clearing his schedule to do it. I'm sure working with Meat again is not one of his priorities, I could be wrong tho). Rick Rubin?? Does Bob Ezrin still work? Chris Thomas? David Richards? Mike Moran? Marc Mann? Roy Bittan? > If Meat is doing new songs does anyone have a idea of what > they will be, if not what would you like. | |
