Your tradition with the Windsors has led you to see that there is a Queen, and a Princess.....because you have no King at the present time. Indeed, in most monarchies the King-Queen descendancy begins with Princess-Prince. Further, the daughters, if I could draw on example of Prince Andrew, are also Princesses? In Russia, there is a different structure. It stems from the pre-Russian Grand Duchy of Muscovy, where the so-called Ivan The Terrible was Muscovy's Grand Duke Ivan IV. When he formed Russia he named his new position Czar. However his succession line formed with Grand Duke Feodor, whose son Mikhail would have been Prince if born before Feodor was elevated to Grand Duke by his father's elevation to Czar. In Russia, it carried through the generations that the first generation was Grand Duke/Grand Duchess, and the second generation, the offspring of Grand Duke/Grand Duchess, is Prince/Princess. Hence my title as a princess. | |
