I do find your critique of ELO Part 2 a bit harsh, whilst i agree that Lynne put the group on hold in the mid eighties to concentrate on his production career it must be remembered that the 2 ELO albums preceding this descision were relative flops. I do find a certain amount of blandness with his sound, i really like the Wilbury's, Harrison et al, but wish there was more variety in the sound.
Around the same time ex members of ELO were still out there producing their unique sound.
When Lynne needed a "boost" to his own career he resurrects ELO for the album ZOOM, you're right IT IS a good album but not an ELO album, in the same way that "that album" is not a BAT Album.
It's the usual argument, who should be the true line up, Lynne coz he hijacked the name from the real talent Roy Wood, or Kaminski & Grocutt who after all had "Faith" in the ELO name thru the non hit years.
Orkestra, ELO part 2 or The Orchestra as they are called now, still put on a more authentic sounding show than Lynne ever could.
