They do not zip in and out of existence, they float between the poles being rejected and then flying to another place to be rejected again. Like atomic pinball. Energy as such other than those present in the valances of atoms, has nothing to do with it. Energy is not matter, and matter is not energy. Magnetics is not matter or energy it is a direction.
