Jim's go-to guy for production influence has historically been Spector, and I think it is unavoidable that he would have been influenced by Rundgren as well. He has worked with many producers, however, and probably learned tidbits from each good one he came across. He is also an original with respect to the use of electronic technologies in the recording studios, and in that area, other producers learn from him.
