Sometimes the widescreen resolution you want may not be available. You should get a driver disk with the monitor (Samsungs always have) that you can use or try to upgrade your graphics card monitor.
We bought some good gear at work but 1680 * 1050 was not available until we loaded the Samsung disk. Surprised me too.
