| Has Steinman ever made reference to one of my other fave Jim songwriters--Jimmy Webb? There always strikes me as some similarities--Webb has long tried to write for the theatre with very mixed results even though that's one of his first loves, Webb broke many peopel's ideas of how long a hit song could be and get play with his productiona nd writing of MacArthur Park at nearly 8 minutes for Richard Harris in 1968, his songs often return to the same themes, and some could say his view on romantic love takes a heightened even adolescent look on the subject mixed with some hyper masculine/mythical references, the albums he produced all of often followed a clear concept (5th Dimension Magic Garden, Richard Harris' A Tramp Shining, The Last Unicorn soundtrack etc), many experimental production and arranging techniques that often bridged the classical and pop/rock worlds, both had huge hits with dance cover versions of their songs (Donna Summer and Nicki French respectively )--ok i'm digging with that last one... Any other fans of Webb here? E | |
