I think of him as very separate > from the cynical swarm of writers who will write whatever > gets the job, and would be thrilled to have a cut on the > next Kelly Clarkson album. Hey, I like Kelly Clarkson. I, for one, would be thrilled to have a cut on her next album. Of course that's assuming her and Clive make up and they hire outside writers. Guess I'll just keep the job I got. Lyrics before music, music before lyrics, lyrics on the fly, music on the fly, jamming while recording, everybody has their own style. While I love Jim's melodies and arrangements, it was his lyrics that first drew me in. It's almost unfair to split the music and lyrics apart, they make each other shine. But with a gun to my head i'd say he's a better lyricist than a composer. His music can be copied. His words are unmistakable. | |
