I've "met" several people through the internet who I've since haven't heard from. From what I hear from others, they are alright. But I had 2 friends who I found out were cutting themselves and I had NO idea how to deal with it. I just tried to tell them funny stories, or anything, (lame I know) to get their minds off it. I haven't heard from 1 of the girls since, hmm, 2005 and I don't know how anyone could get in contact with me to let me know.
Even if people don't die, and the Rockman is a good example, it's strange how people pass through...you talk to them, you get to know them, you hear their stories, you learn their lives, and then something happens to their telephone bill, or a family member, or sickness, or their email is hacked into, or anything, and you never hear from them again. It's something I've never been able to deal with (as lame as that sounds) probably also because a relationship started and dissolved on the web. And, God, did *THAT* make Steinman's music appeal to me so much more... :(
