Thanks for a really moving, thought-provoking post, Vin. I visited the Yearbook website and read Karl's piece. The names of all the contributers are like a time warp of sorts--Reba, Moco Steinman, the Steingirl, Angie, Markus, remember Fag? It seemed like it was so long ago when I read the list. What a fun bunch. It does make me wonder where some of them who aren't here are.
Yeah, the nature of internet community is transient so when someone disappears for a time no real alarms tend to go off. By that same token we often don't know what turmoil people are dealing with privately as many use boards as these as distraction from daily life. A few years back I was on a Bull Terrier mailing list and one breeder who I'd not seen personally for several years posted alot--usually helping new dog owners and helping even us seasoned bully people cope with particularly painful dog losses of our own. He quit posting for a time and I learned a few months later that he'd committed suicide. He was a VietNam vet who'd never fully left the war behind. I felt so guilty because I had no idea the pain he dealt with--he was always helping others through their own turmoil. I wasn't able to return to that list as it was too painful.
It's interesting how close people become on the 'net yet we do remain strangers on most levels.
If anyone's inclined, perhaps we should consider a memorial page for Jim fans--kind of a morose thought, but it might also be a nice acknowledgement to a dedicated fan's loyalty as well as a way to let others know this person won't be back.
Thank you all for posting such nice memories.
I do miss him so.
Peace to you all.
