I have not seen very much of those TV shows but I say no.

I think those TV shows take something away from the music in a way. They take discussions that should occur privately and make them public.

Doing that for a hypothetical BAT musical would encourage spectators to view it differently. They'd show up and be thinking more about whether or not the performers "have it", less about the story and the songs, and what they mean.

In practice those singing reality TV shows tend not to be a vehicle for releasing exceptional music. They are a vehicle toward releasing new, unexceptional versions of old music, or new music that isn't all that exceptional.

The other thing is that they're a whole production in their own right, they take a lot of time and money. If Steinman is aiming to have his oldies jukebox musical released in 2008 he probably doesn't have a moment to spare on any side TV show.

So it would be a distraction that draws attention in the wrong direction.

Speaking of singing Reality TV shows.

The singer of the last American Idol TV season has a singing style kinda similar to the black girl from the inactive/dead group.

Here's her singing a demo of James Horner's "If We Hold On Together".

James Horner is a musical GENIUS.

Listen to the part that begins at 2:44. Very similar to what's her name from the inactive/dead group.

Seriously, if somebody gave you that demo and told you it was the black girl from the inactive/dead group, would you really know it wasn't her?
