| Susan, Good post. Sorry I can't agree with you about INS. The chorus leaves me wondering why the lyrics in the verses didn't inspire me more or take me somewhere different. I also don't think the arrangement is all that inspired. More specifically, the phrasing on the vocals doesn't have Steinman's usual touch, and it doesn't work well with the lyrics. Maybe this song would be better served by taking a lead sheet and handing it to someone like Tori Amos and taking away everything but her piano. (I hate Tori and her whiny politics and boring social views, and I hate all but a handful of her songs, but I mean someone *like* Tori Amos.) The existing INS recordings are too structured and formulaic for a song that screams out betrayal and frustration and they all kind of suffer for it. They are too "adult contemporary", I think. I've been dying to hear "You Break It, You Buy It" for years. My guess is that it's the Steinman treasure we've all been looking for. -=John Galt=- > "Is Nothing Sacred" is a potential hit song that has not > been recorded in a way that fulfills its potential. > > It's one of the few Steinman songs that really has > radio-friendly Adult Contemporary ballad written all over > it, because there's nothing all that weird or theatrical > about it. > > I have the "Very Best Of Meat Loaf" set and that recording > isn't too great.
