I'll also defend Meat's right to do what the hell he likes as far as touring/recording goes, as it's his career and he is still very successful in terms of drawing an audience to his shows. My point is more that it's a shame he's so disliked by the Steinman community when he should be a massive hero as the singlemost important component in Jim's career. Without Bat Out Of Hell, the truth is that none of us knows whether the world would have discovered Jim Steinman, and I'd have to say without that voice singing those songs I doubt the album would have been a phenomenally successful as it was. It's a shame though that pretty much everyone agrees Meat's shows are poor these days - a 20/30% hit rate of good shows is surely not fair to fans who pay 40 or 50 quid a ticket? I'd much rather he knocked the massive tours on the head, played a few select shows to publicise his latest release and I'm sure his voice would be in a much better shape if he did this. He CAN still cut it, when he's properly rested and he hasn't overused his voice - the problem is he pushes himself too hard through these endless tours and any semblance of quality control goes out of the window. | |
