If Jim was indeed heavily into Wuthering Heights at the time he wrote the song, as what has been previously stated in the past, then the only character it would really fit would be Cathy and not Heathcliffe.

We can only guess how Jim writes a song, but if it was me, then I'd need a character (male or female) to tell the story I wanted to tell. And since Jim has stated that his songs are his children, I think he'd like to specifically know what sex those children are ;o)

The song fits nicely because we're used to the song being where it is. Had Jim decided to use the tune of 'Loving You's A Dirty Job' instead, we'd be used to that by now aswell. But there's no bigger song that Jim has recorded than Total Eclipse (maybe Anything For Love) and that's probably why he chose that particular tune, because it's an instant recognition.
I dunno, it's all guess work at the end of the day, it would be great if Jim could give a rundown of certain songs and how they came into being.
