| Hi Venom I read the same post that you quote and I think that you are absolutely correct. There will be the wonderful things you mention. But I still don't think that it will be like Cirque. Peter Pan is more than a "theme" for Jim. He has publicly stated that Neverland is the inspiration for all of his songs. This is going to be a musical and the Cirque that I saw is nothing like a musical. When Jim told the reporter that the show was going to be "like Cirque on acid", I think he was partly joking and partly referring to certain elements of the show. If you read all the different posts, including Jim's blog, the Obsidian description on this website, the information on Wikepedia, and other sources, then you can start to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Yes, it will have all the things you mention. And yes, parts of it will be like Cirque on acid, but there will also be Jim's grand vision of Obsidian. Post-apocalyptic New York. Can you imagine the set? It will be wonderful. I think that it will be something like the cover of Bat 2, with the giant mythical bat perched on top of the Chrysler building, the most charismatic building in the world. I don't know for sure. I can only hope. And of course there will be the story of Peter Pan or Neverland. If you think about it, the story of Peter Pan could be really cool if it's not like the Disney version. Again, I don't know what Jim will actually end up doing but I hope that his Peter will be more like James Dean. A rebel who doesn't want to grow up. Of course all the stunt people, skate borders and other things that you mention will be there. Jim has promised us in his writings. For this show to succeed, it must be much better than a Meat Loaf concert. A Meat Loaf concert is the best use of Jim's songs at the moment. It is what the show will be compared to. The stage version of 'Lord of the Rings' is failing partly because it is being compared to the three powerful movies and partly because it has no good songs. Jim doesn't have to worry on either count. He has great songs and the show is bound to be much better than a Meat Loaf concert. The things you mention in your post are part of a powerful package which will blow the West End away. Best regards, Mr.Egg Venom wrote: "I mean aside from the Peter Pan theme, which is a given, Jim has sent emails and posted blog entires before stating that the musical is going to use a music cycle to stunts. He also mentions from quote "The show does feature motorcycles, flying and non flying, BMXs and a few skateboarders, all doing jaw dropping stunts on wonderfully "designed" curls, just like the greatest Xtreme sports. All the bikes will be choreographed. The first thing in my mind before I wrote Bat was the image of a motorcycle doing a pirouette. Now we'll see it. Its all about defying gravity, caressing danger, and burning blazes of speed. The Russian wizards are very real too, they live there and have perfected a technique of flying that makes all theatre stuff look pathetic." | |
