Saw the production of Whistle Down The Wind last night at the ordway and since this seems to be a forum, i'll share some thoughts. Not a full review, that's been done, and with larger words than I intend to use.

Keep in mind I purposely have not listened to my cast album in a while, nor have I ever known it by heart. I don't know what changes were made, and I didn't want to know going into it. I just wanted to be entertained.

And I was. It was a great production. And it really is an entertaining little story. The friends I brought with me knew absolutely nothing about it, and were into the story the entire time. In fact the whole audience seemed to like it, I witnessed a few tears shed at certain parts.

Cold seemed to be the audience favorite. And it was funny and entertaining, before turning into a southern race scene. The was an excellent balance of fun and candor. The story touches on issues, but doesn't dwell. It moves on matter-of-fact-ish.

The leads, Andrea Ross and Eric Kunze were great. Especially Kunze. That's some f'n talent.

Webber did create some really good melodies that kept sprinkling throughout the show (Wrestle with the Devil, Whistle Down The Wind, No Matter What, A Kiss...)

My favorite part, when it got to Let's Make a Promise/A Kiss is a Terrible Thing To Waste. It was good to be such a huge Steinman fan last night. It was so close to what I'd pictured listening to this tune on the cast album so many times. It's still my favorite version, just do to all the parts and stories. And the "driving" during Tyre Tracks reprise, that was fun.

The only real time I said "Oh, what?" was during the Tyre Tracks and Broken Hearts. I thought that was poorly staged, and needed more excitement. MATT SKRINCOSKY who played Amos was not sounding too good on this one, but fine on the others, which may be more of me being such a fan of the song and having high expectations.

I know a few have stated they don't care for this production. But I'll say, If you're a fan of Jim Stienman (and who here isn't) Go see this show if you have the opportunity. And it's not like America is going to get Tanz anytime soon.

And I am now really thankful for Meat's version of Home By Now/No Matter What. I really love Home By Now, and his version gives it a different light than being sung by children.
