Welcome to the Neighborhood

What do you think? I used to HATE this album, because I thought Diane Warren was ripping off Steinman and the Steinman covers sounded so much better in their original versions. But I got ahold of another copy and I listened to it without any preconceptions (I had attempted to do this with "The Monster Is Loose" but arrived at the same conclusion as before: BOOOORRRRING!!!!)

I would have been thrilled if "Welcome To The Neighborhood" was the last Meat Loaf album. I think "Martha" and "Where Angels Sing" are a fitting enough conclusion to one's singing career as "For Crying Out Loud" was for a first album. I've really come to appreciate this album for what it is, Meat Loaf's attempt to craft an intelligent and cohesive concept...with enough strong and different songs to make it memorable. I'll always think "I'd Lie For You" is a Steinman rip-off, in concept and execution, but there's something about it and the rest of this album that now gives me a good feeling.

I used to like "Couldn't Have Said It Better" much more but now I don't. Oh, and sue me, I'm talking about Meat Loaf on a Steinman message-forum. Allow me... (lawsuit is on its way to my address, should take a second.)
