I'm not sure how they butchered the song when they recorded it as per Jims and ALW's guidance. Had they just done their own thing like what Westlife did with Total Eclipse, then butchered would be a term I'd use.
That said, I personally can't cope with the song at all. It reminds me of a follow-through fart after a bad chicken korma from a dodgey Indian take-away. At that time Boyzone could have recorded anything they wanted and it still would've been a hit. Tiretracks, Vaults Of Heaven and Cold are much better songs IMO, and they should've been made into singles.
