| Thanks for the story, Ryan--this all sounds the way Priscilla has spoken of both him and Carl. I remember being totally starstruck whilst she nonchalantly relayed the many encounters--they went out to dinner together at slow venues...Christmas cards...and she was totally cool about them, they were good friends...it was just amazing. And yeah, aura is a good word to describe what IS kinda indescribable. You ever have a chance, Ryan, I know he'd love to talk to you. Jesus, (pardon the pun...) the people he's worked with! By the way, thanks for the 1989 'Signs' enlightening. That still sounds like Jim being diplomatic and supportive of that lp--the video did NOT sink Billy's career entirely. Shitty material ('too broad a deviation in direction...' and the wrong producer/s for the project ddin't help. Jim has NO room to talk when it comes to how not to make a video. Kenny Ortega took the piss for horrendous video direction on that video--Billy fought him initially then was assured by Capitol brass that he(Billy)knew nothing about videos, so basically sit down, roll around on pink satin sheets and shut up. So many things went wrong that whole follow up that it's boggling. I DO know that Billy never publically blamed Jim for anything--ever and I can't see Jim turning on Billy--Jim was paid and did the job Billy asked. Both are professionals and carried on as such. Jim WAS right about control--Billy felt he had none on that video and Capitol was really calling last minute, desperate shots. A shame Billy didn't present better material for Jim to have at on. You can only shine a turd so much...but again, Jim isn't really a producer, per se in my eyes. The Maestro pimps out when and where he shouldn't. It doen't become him. Thanks and cheers!
