Musically and lyrically I liked it - that is I liked the demos. The execution in the show was poorly done and I thoroughly despised the spoken text in Angels Arise (I ate all the mushroooooms QQ).
Personally, I don't think that the change was necessary. Especially in the light that Angels and possibly GHLTB too have been moved from Batman to Dance. Which seemed to me as if Steinman was torpedoing his own shows.

Seems they wanted to flesh out the character of Sarah, which was really a small role in the movie and not really much bigger in the original show.
