I agree. Love 'em or hate 'em, the versions of "Pigs" and "Break It" on Bat III sounded NEW, they were recognizably Steinman but they had an energy and vitality that Steinman's music hasn't had for ages. They weren't covers of songs we've heard a million times, and they didn't have the late 80s / early 90s synthesized gloss that Steinman & Rinkoff seem so enamored with.
Steinman is a notorious control freak, that's part of his thing, certainly, but sometimes you've got to let your children go if they are ever going to stand on their own.
