I think you get confused with same chord progressions meaning the song is a copy?

Millions of songs have the same chord progressions, but it doesn't make them a copy. There are only a limited amount of chords in any one key and therefore impossible for all songs to have different progressions/changes.

You can inject 'colour' into standard progressions by adding 6th, 7th & 9th notes, and/or different bass lines.

The main thing that makes a song different is the melody and of course the lyrics.

The melodies in the two verses/choruses and bridge of 'Edging Into Darkness' are (to me) nothing like 'Bad For Good' and 'Bat'.

I 'think' the chord progressions in the chorus are the same as the 'god speed' parts in Bad For Good, but not sure about Bat chords in the 'bridge'.

In the last section the 'Making Love' piano riff is obviously used but the vocal melody is slightly different.
