| I get that the monster money shot wasn't the goal, and that it was meant to be a chaotic first person roller coaster, but it reminded me of playing House Of The Dead or something similar. I do think they tried to develop the characters, just didn't do it very well. I honestly didn't care who died or how. I wasn't overly attached to the trendy New York socialites. Again, I just thought that the film relied entirely on the hand held gimmick. As a film student/maker I can't seem to not dissect certain films. Maybe I'm just mad I didn't think of the idea ;). But, it worked for some people and they were entertained, and that's all that really matters in the end. Burtons Sweeney is the only version I've seen of the story. I'd like to see the stage production now, but don't think I would have if I didn't see the movie. To me the beauty of a Burton film is that even if the story isn't that good you can still enjoy his great Production Design and Cinematography. Like in Sleepy Hollow, a gorgeous looking film, but a pretty bad adaption (IMO). > Cloverfield was good in my opinion because it created a > feeling of being there.
