The only thing that makes any sense is that TDE was gonna happen, but then sometime after the March 2006 shows, the possibility of a Bat musical was presented to Jim (perhaps the producers where at the TDE shows) and he presumably followed his heart?
Once Bat is up & running, I would like to think TDE might be ressurected.
