You hear more about people who've accidentally killed someone because they've got a gun than those who've defended themselves. That statistic would be interesting to know.
If a burglar broke into my house I'd go to town on him and give the bastard a right good pasting, if I had a gun, the temptation to quickly blow the motherfuckers brains out might be too strong because I've got 3 young children. I'm glad that in this country that temptation has been taken away from me.
The problem is, not all citizens are responsible enough to use a firearm in a responsible manner and don't know what would or wouldn't be the right situation to use one. Defending themselves??? that's very vague, as someone may feel threatened but not actually be threatened.
BUT gun control isn't as black and white as it seems. When you have games like Grand Theft Auto that glorifies blowing the fuck out of someone, watch movies like Batman, Wanted, Die Hard, Rambo etc that shows people shooting the shit out of other people, then some people think they can do the same, because they're retarded.
