There is no utopia in the world where you are completely safe from violence. I do not fear going outside my home, but it does not mean that someone couldn't come out of nowhere and violently attack me or my family. My car was broken into and things stolen a few months ago. The police (who were completely useless... me and my wife tracked down where the stolen merchandise was redeemed for the police, gave them the time and date... and the business gave them a video tape of the customer and a license of the car he was driving and they still never caught him... I'm not going to trust them with my safety.) said that there are only instances like this in my neighborhood once every ten years.
