| Oh christ, I went to see The Meat Loaf Trilogy in Ipswich earlier this year. I will never get those hours back. They took something that was meant to be operatic, soaring, and passionate and turned it into cheap caberet. Might be par for the course with tribute acts, I've never been to see one before so I wasn't sure what to expect; I'm probably being quite naive about this, admittedly. It was tacky and cheesy as all hell and the guy's voice actually made my ears hurt, he was so shrill. A couple of friends came with me even though they weren't Steinman or Loaf fans and I was embarrassed. Okay, maybe I didn't give it a fair chance, we were all cringing so much we left at the first interval. His rendition of 'Alive' was actually pretty good, just don't let him near any Steinman songs. He did rate Bat III as good as Bat I and 2 - that wasn't the best start. I think what summarised it for me was when he apologised and said something along the lines of [Northern Accent] "I'll be back next year with an [x] piece orchestra - I'm bloody shitting meself, I tell you".
