| Hmm, both of them are really exceptional at wordplay. Both of them seem to be incredibly observant - and focus on what's really important. Both write songs that are sexual, sensual, erotic, and comedic all at once. Both are obvious seekers of that which they can consider holy, and that doesn't seem to even slightly map directly to what any major religions have decided is holy - they are looking for something far greater, and yet find a holiness which is more accessable, more precious, and more essential to being human. Both sometimes get labelled in the press as being "depressing", usually by people who didn't get the jokes. And I am proud to live in the same time period as both of these men. I suspect that Leonard Cohen's book "Beautiful Losers" was one of the main 200 things that helped influence Jim's original "Dream Engine". :P | |
