| > Please feel free to share your 'Bat' recollections. Prior to October 2006, I had only heard of Meat Loaf, but never heard the music. And I had never even heard of Jim Steinman. In October 2006, as I'm sure you remember, Bat 3 came out. My dad got it, and it was packaged with the Classic Albums DVD. Bat 3 has since become a taboo subject in my house -- for obvious reasons. Anyhow, my dad had always ranted about how BOOH was the greatest album of all time. Personally, I was skeptical: 1) why would someone be called Meat Loaf? and 2) why would there be a Cadillac in a Cracker Jack box? My dad popped in the Classic Albums DVD, and so I sat down and watched it with him, to see what all the fuss was about. It only showed a few seconds of each song, but I was instantly hooked. It definitely says something about a song when I fall in love with it in mere seconds. Watching Meat sing "Heaven Can Wait" drenched in blue light was like being transported to another world. When the DVD ended, I borrowed my dad's copy of BOOH, and the rest is history. I've been addicted to Jim's music ever since, always craving more. As he says, "too much is never enough." The heartwrenching guitar lick at the end of the instrumental opening fills me with indescribable emotion every time I hear it. A A-Bb-A-G G-A-G-F And I also love listening to the 1977 Bottom Line version (check my profile if you want the high-quality download). The way Jim plays the chords is just haunting. My profile also has a link to me singing an a cappella karaoke version of BOOH. Shameless self-promotion, I know. :-) | |
