I am not sure if I've seen the cheesy videos you mention. Can you give me more information?

The only terrible Jim video that I have seen was the Pandora's Box video for It's All coming Back To Me Now. There are two versions. The original and the one that the record company edited.

This can't really be blamed on Jim because Ken Russell directed it. Jim probably thought he was going to get something like one of the really cool scenes from Russell's Tommy. But by the time Russell directed Pandora's box, he must have been bonkers. I don't know what he was thinking of. It was a very ugly orgy and the record company tried to edit Russell's vision out.

As far as Jim being influenced by the movie you mention, it is always possible. Although the album cover is more complicated then that. Especially if you consider the importance of the bat.

The cover for Bat 2 is also very Jim because it's his Obsidian vision. He used to have Obsidian as a post-apocalyptic city in California but he changed it to post-apocalyptic New York. The bat on the Chrysler building is a brilliant image. He couldn't have picked a more iconic building. It's like the Statue of Liberty in Planet of the Apes.

I am sure you are right that Jim has been influenced by various things but I think a genius is allowed to do that. I saw an old cartoon video from 1972 for Leader Of The Pack and it featured a guy on a Harley, with enormous wings, rising up into heaven. I immediately wondered if Jim had been influenced by that.
