| In 1981 I was just starting highschool and attending all those dances in the gymnasium. I never really knew how much magic was there until I heard IKYIYDCB. The first time I heard the song, I thought it was one of Steinman's worst efforts. Until it got to the glass breaking. I remember only half paying attention to the song as I had already written it off. And then Meat sang that first bit: Somebody bless all the girls in the sand on the beach They're dreamin' of boys and staying just out of reach Bless all the cheerleaders down on the track They're glistening like diamonds with sweat on their backs That had me spellbound...and then Bless all the homecoming queens of the night They're looking for magic in gymnasium lights And bless all the girls who know what love is about They try not to cry and then they try to put out That pretty much captures the essence of highschool. | |
