Try to be a little fair. In the 90's the Republican congress had to shut down the government and conduct all out political war to get the surplus you describe. President Clinton and Democrats screamed that more spending was needed and if Clinton wasn't so scandal prone, Republicans never could have done it.

Before Democrats and Barak Obama took control of the Senate the largest deficit Bush and the Republican Congress ran was under $500 billion. Bush should have vetoed many of those budgets, but they were nothing compared to what Obama has done in the first 100 days.

Obama has spent more money on handouts to democratic interest groups then Bush spent on the war in Iraq. His spending and drive to socialism and economic inefficiency is so fast and startling, no one in the United States has seen anything like it in this country.

In terms of regulation and greed, see Thomas Woods book Meltdown if you want to go beyond the Obamabot rhetoric on this one. But, you'll have to excuse Americans for believing in small government and minimal regulation because it's what their country looked like when it was growing at a spectacular rate and becoming an economic superpower. Modern times and high regulations looked disasterous by comparison.

For the facts on Obama's spending, please see this video:
