I must say Phantom movie left me way underwhelmed -- but so does the musical itself, so I always feel like a bit of a heathen no-nuthin when it comes to musical theatre. The melodies are wonky, and I don't think I could ever take a completely sung thru show (or MOSTLY sung thru or whatever Phantom is) all that seriously.

I thought for a while that I disliked ALW, but then JCS started growing on me big time and I adore the melodies in Whistle Down The Wind, so it's just Phantom that doesn't fly for me. (I'm not familiar with most of ALW's work, just the famous bits).

... the famous bits like CATS. That one sucks too. If I hear Rum Tum Tugger ever again it'll be too soon.
