I know it is. But at the time it was written Yorkshire blokes at best would go to mill or down pit, then...go to pub, drink ten pints, go out to get plastered, go back home, beat up wife, cos they're a big fat Yorkshire bastard :-)
There's no way Wuthering Heights was aimed at blokes, besides, even now mosy Yorkshire blokes can't read, granted most of them are now from Pakistan but even so.
