No idea how big this is around the world - does it even get broadcast in other countries? I assume so. Anyways, rather than feeding the madness (a weakness of mine), I thought I'd try something else. What's been good at Glasto this year? The Specials - great, but the elephant in the room was the absence of chief writer Jerry Dammers, stabbed in the back by the returning Terry Hall. Still, it was great to hear Do Nothing, Rudy A Message To You, and Ghost Town after all these years. Blur - just finished their headline slot to close the festival. Quite breathtaking I thought, especially the closing Universal. Springsteen - the band were awesome, the man himself sweated out of every pore, the setlist was perfect....but he's in danger of doing a Meat Loaf. The voice is no longer there. It's not GONE in the way that Meat's has, but it's on the way out. On Badlands and Born To Run it was inaudible, but on Thunder Road and Dancing in the Dark it was fine. But, like the Meaty man himself, he still puts on a good show. A great show in fact. Nick Cave - awesome as always. That was about it this year - not a vintage year. Tom Jones and Tony Christie were fine - exactly what you'd expect. But there was a distinct lack of great, obscure acts this year, which is what makes the festival so unique usually. Maybe the BBC chose the wrong stages, but it was a little bit anti-climactic compared to previous years. Anyways - anyone else been watching? Did I miss something great? | |
