He wasn't some dope smoking hippy but a fairly conservative chap who was trusted even by the Archie Bunkers of the world. If he said it couldn't be won, then it couldn't be won. He was voted the most trusted man in America. Another famous moment was when he was the first person to break the news that JFK had died. In an interview he said he almost "lost it" when he was delivering that very sad news. | |
