Frankenstein: The Musical

Ryan, I'm sorry that I didn't reply to your Frankenstein post of ten days ago. I read it and was very impressed but something came up before I could respond and now it has sadly almost left this page.

Also, this is not a for-Ryan-only post. Ryan brings up some very interesting points and it would be great to hear comments from other posters.

I love when you write: "you look at the songs as corpses being exhumed because that’s essentially what would happen if you used “Dead Ringer” and “Bad for Good”."

That is so cool. What if you wrote lyrics for that concept of songs as corpses being exhumed and Jim composed music for the lyrics?

I understand the practical point you were making when you say: "So for me, as far as the general public is concerned, these albums have long since been buried."

You would be bringing forgotten songs back to life. Which would be a fantastic thing to do. But at the same time as you make a practical point, you come up with this really cool and creepy concept.

It fits right in with the whole Frankenstein thing. Like when you say: "So it’s time to dig them up like Frankenstein going round the graveyard at night with a wheelbarrow, shovel and pick, searching for “materials” for the Monster and (later) his bride."

"But back to “Dead Ringer”, watch the film “Heavenly Creatures” directed by Peter Jackson and that’s how I would visualize “Dead Ringer: The Musical” being done, except rougher and with a man who imagines his wife having an affair. He kills her and we see the flashback to the first time they ever met, “Dead Ringer for Love”, and he is arrested and sings “Everything is Permitted” in a scene similar to the last scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho”."

I must make a point of watching "Heavenly Creatures". Have any other posters seen it?

I like the idea of "Dead Ringer" being a flashback song. Even better is using "Everything is Permitted" for a scene similar to the last scene in Psycho.

You are correct when you say: "the song that came to my mind was “It’s all coming back to me now”. Remember Jim said that song is about dead things coming to life."

Are you updating the script every time you get another idea?

You asked me: "Just curious, but what songs from the non-Bat albums would you like to see in “Frankenstein”?"

I'm not as good as you at knowing what songs would work. My favourite non-Bat songs are Total Eclipse and Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through. Total Eclipse is already in Tanz and I'm not sure where Rock And Roll Dreams would fit. Perhaps the Frankenstein monster could sing it as a song of liberation. I think What Part Of My Body Hurts The Most and Safe Sex would both work. But unfortunately I would need you to tell me how.

This could be an interesting thread. What Bat or non-Bat songs would work in Frankenstein: The Musical?

I think it also depends on whether your vision is for a serious Frankenstein or a toungue-in-cheek Frankenstein.
